Work from Home Jobs for Moms

The concept of working from home is not just some myth created to raise the hopes of would-be stay at home mothers. It is possible to find jobs from home for moms, you just have to know where to look. Don’t fall for the “business opportunity” scams that promise to have you making thousands of dollars per week, though. While you can make good money working from home, it is work and it isn’t going to make you filthy rich.

Here are a few legitimate work from home jobs for moms to consider.

Medical Transcription
Medical transcription can be a rewarding, well paying work from home job if you have the training and/or experience required. The medical transcription field is a competitive one however, and you shouldn’t try to fake it just to get a job. There are many very technical terms and very specific abbreviations one must know and sometimes the quality of the voice recordings can be less than ideal. Work is assigned differently depending on the client, so you may have to travel to pick up and drop off work from one client while another may operate wholly online.

Online Tutoring Jobs
If you have any kind of educational background or a degree in a particular field, you may qualify for an online tutoring job. The big drawback to this job is that not everyone will qualify and you must be flexible in the hours you are available to work. Expect to have your evenings and weekends committed to work since this is typically when students will need you.

Virtual Assistant Jobs
More and more employers are finding the value in having a virtual assistant as opposed to a traditional assistant. Again, the field is competitive, so be sure to play up your skills and market yourself accurately. If you can type 120 words per minute, then let it be known. Your hours as a virtual assistant will depend entirely on the client and some are more flexible than others. Most clients prefer to be in constant contact with their assistants and many require a daily phone conference or a weekly in person meeting.

Call Center Jobs
Call center jobs are probably the most common and easiest to find form of work at home employment. Many call center jobs will hire workers outright rather than have them work as an independent contractor, which opens the doors to benefits and takes the headaches out of taxes. Most call center jobs are flexible with hours, but you must work the hours you commit to. It is also imperative that you have complete silence while you are on duty, so this isn’t a job you can do if you have little ones running around; a night time position may be possible if you don’t mind the hours.

Some of the companies that offer call center jobs:
West Corporation
LiveOps
Alpine Access
Cloud 10
Working Solutions

Freelance Writing Jobs
There are several different ways to make money from home as a freelance writer. If you have a good grasp on the English language and are a stickler for grammar, this work at home position could be for you. You can write for private clients, news sites, content sites, and more. Pay does vary radically, and it takes time to establish a steady income with writing. The benefit to freelance writing, however, is that you can generally set your own hours and work from anywhere you want, so long as you are meeting your deadlines and background noise doesn’t bother you.

Working from home can be rewarding but challenging – finding legitimate work from home jobs for moms as opposed to a “job opportunity” requires a little bit of legwork. When you’ve found your niche, however, it is possible to make a full time income from home while still being a full time mom too. Just be careful to never pay anyone to work and you’ll do fine.
