Tips For Successful Work From Home Moms

Success for work from home moms doesn’t just happen by accident.  It takes discipline, planning and a lot of hard work but the rewards are worth it.  Here are some tips to help you become a successful work from home mom.

Create a workspace that’s yours alone.  This may seem easier said than done if you have a house full of kids, and hardly any room to spare, let alone a spare bedroom.  But you can do it if you get creative.  Some people convert a corner of their closet into a work area.  They squeeze a small file cabinet, small desk, a place to keep all the office supplies organized and in one place.  Or it may be a matter of keeping all of your work supplies neatly stored in a portable box or two that you can transport easily to a quiet spot.  Unpack only what you need at the time, but keep everything organized for easy retrieval.  No matter what method you use, it’s important as a timesaver, and also as a reminder to yourself that you’re serious about your work from home job.

Create some work time that’s yours alone.  Even if you have to hire a babysitter, or send the kids over to the neighbor’s house for an hour or two, it’s important to create some time for your work when you will absolutely not be interrupted.  There will be plenty of times where you will have to be working at the computer and balancing a baby on your lap and a toddler at your side.  That’s why it’s especially important to create at least a few hours in every work week where you won’t have to worry about doing that.  This way, when you know you have to make important phone calls or focus on some difficult project, you can schedule it during your “work alone” time.

Create some rewards for yourself.  Work from home moms are usually so busy taking care of other people, but they forget to take care of themselves.  And as a work at home mom, you’ve taken on even more than you’re all ready busy schedule can probably handle, but you’ll handle it anyway.  You need to keep yourself physically and mentally in top condition, so make sure your rewards are healthy.  Taking time for a long bubble bath will ease some of your stress.  Or take time for a 10 minute workout every day that will keep your energy level up and your weight down.  Or take 15 minutes every day to relax with a healthy cup of green tea to keep your focus sharp.  When you take care of yourself, you’ll be in top shape to take care of your work at home job and your family too.
