With the economy in its current state, people are searching for opportunities that will help bring in extra income. One job in particular that seems to come up repeatedly is stuffing envelopes from home. This is an outright scam that many people become the victim of. It is not so hard to fall for the promise of a steady income when you are down on your luck. Unfortunately, since so many people do invest their time and money into these ‘jobs’, the companies behind the schemes continue to thrive.
People are curious creatures. They see the advertisements stating that they can make thousands of dollars per month stuffing envelopes and it piques their curiosity. There are promises of freedom made by these companies, such as; being able to work part-time making full time wages, spending more time with your family and friends thanks to reduced working hours, not having to answer to a supervisor, and being able to complete the work whenever you want. The problem is that there is absolutely no follow through on these promises because there is no money to be made in the first place.
When a person (let’s call this person Peter, just for the sake of simplicity) responds to one of these cleverly worded ads, he is asked to send in a small amount of money to receive the ‘complete details’ on how to start making money stuffing envelopes from home. Legitimate business opportunities often do require start up money. A person should NEVER have to invest money to simply receive information on a business opportunity; this is one of the very first signs of a scam. The details should be written out in plain English and all questions should be answered prior to making an investment into a business.
Let us assume, though, that Peter sends in the initial requested amount. What will he receive for his money? He will be sent a letter. This letter will explain that the Peter can make X amount of dollars for every mailing that he sends out. Peter is then asked to send in a significantly larger amount of money for the complete kit so that he can start earning right away. This larger amount of money is mailed, and Peter receives his kit. In this kit will be multiple identical copies of the letter (containing the ‘complete details’ on stuffing envelopes) that Peter first received, along with instructions for Peter to place ads in local newspapers and on website classifieds about this so-called opportunity.
When someone responds to Peter’s ad, Peter will tell the person to send the initial cash and then Peter is to send the ‘complete details’ letter to the person making the inquiry. Peter just stuffed his first envelope. This cycle continues over and over. The only person making any money is the one who came up with and implemented the scam in the first place. This type of thing is also called a pyramid scheme. While there are plenty of legitimate work from home opportunities available for men and women that would like to work at home, stuffing envelopes from home is certainly not one of them.
