For many people, to work online from home sounds like a great choice. They want the flexibility of freedom and of course the money that working at home brings. But, what type of work at home position would be best? There is no one answer for everyone. Different personality types and skill sets do better with different types of jobs.
Selling Products
People who aren’t shy and love to promote themselves can often do especially well in sales. When you work in sales, promoting the product is often not as important as promoting yourself to your potential customers. People who are good at sales often enjoy meeting and talking to people. They may have to make cold calls, they may have to e-mail people or they may need to set up conferences. There are multiple approaches to selling from home.
Another way to work online from home is through affiliate marketing which requires the salesperson to constantly promote other people and their items. People who want to sell and don’t want to talk to strangers all day can still sell online. They can create an e-commerce site or sell on eBay from home and not have to market themselves aggressively. These sites work well for people who don’t want to have to promote themselves to customers and want more solitary working time.
Selling Services
New services to sell are being developed each day. Selling services can range from providing clients with wake-up calls or providing a more complex service such as collaborating on web design.
Some real estate agents conduct business at home. Professional organizers, freelance writers, video editors and programmers often sell their services from home as well. People who want to sell a service should enjoy talking to new people. Like sales people, they must be able to spend a lot of time promoting themselves while they market their service.
Telecommuting Jobs
Telecommuting is another possibility to work online from home. People who telecommute for a company may find their at home job opportunity in either of two ways. Sometimes, a job will begin in a central office and eventually become assigned to employees at home as the company realizes the savings involved. Sometimes these jobs began as telecommuting jobs that were never on-site.
Either way, a telecommuting worker is usually an employee of the company but still has many of the work at home advantages. This often means health insurance from an employer and no self-employment tax. Telecommuting jobs are great for people who want the security of working for a company but still need flexibility in their career.
If you want to work online from home, consider which of these options would best suit your skill set and situation. Getting starting usually involves a bit of a learning curve, especially if you are working on your own, but in the end the freedom that comes with working out of your home is more than worth the upfront effort.
