It seems as if every newspaper or online classifieds site has an advertisement to work from home stuffing envelopes. These ads claim that you can make hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars per week for simply putting paper inside envelopes and then sealing them up. Most people know that this is a scam, but what about other work from home opportunities? While there are plenty of schemes that are designed to swindle away your money, there are also a handful of ways to actually support your family while working from home.
Many direct sales companies have been around for decades; for a person that likes to sell, this is a wonderful way to earn an income. These companies provide the products and promotional materials while you do the selling, on which you earn a commission. Often, companies will offer bonus programs as an incentive to encourage consultants to sell more products.
Some direct sales programs require you to purchase a kit with a sampling of the company products before you begin selling. Having the products on hand allows you to show potential customers the quality of the items that they are considering purchasing. Other companies give the option of purchasing inventory, while allowing those who opt out to use catalogs to gain orders.
An additional way to earn money with direct sales companies is to create a down line. This means encouraging your clients to sign up to become consultants. When a person that you refer becomes a consultant and begins selling products, you will receive an extra commission based on their sales. Many direct sales companies are based on MLM (multi level marketing).
There are MLM companies that have good reputations, and then there are those that are not so good. The companies that have legitimate income potential for all of the consultants are those that offer a large variety of tangible products that are useful, well made and appeal to a large audience. Some examples might be direct sales of candles, home and kitchen goods, cosmetics, and tools. Other direct sales companies might market toys, jewelry, food, and romance products.
A bad MLM company to work for is one that has no real, useful product to sell. An MLM, much like the company that says you can work from home stuffing envelopes, wants to make a lot of money off you and give you nothing in return. The company’s only goal is to create a continued down line. Profit is made purely by recruiting new consultants and the only real earners are the very first consultants, usually the founders of the company.
If you sign on with a company whose only objective is to create a down line, you may as well work from home stuffing envelopes, as the outcome is going to be the same. There is no money to be made with a company who does not have a tangible product line. There are a number of direct sales companies with outstanding reputations. If sales are your niche and you like the idea of working independently, consider a direct sales company. Research the product line, the commission rates, and gather information on recruitment policies. There is money to be made with the right company.
