Affiliate marketing is the hottest thing to hit the internet since, well, the internet. Affiliate marketing began years ago when Amazon.com was in its infancy. Amazon decided to offer salespeople, affiliates, a small percentage of Amazon’s sales if the sales were brought in by the affiliate. People began signing up by the truckload, putting up websites to bring in Amazon sales and creating marketing campaigns. A new work from home opportunity was born.
This marketing frenzy benefited Amazon, as they were paying relatively little in exchange for the sales. An advertising campaign would have been much more costly to run. And affiliates were getting an unprecedented opportunity for passive income. Once the sites and links were in place, affiliates were paid automatically for the sales they brought in. No further work was necessary.
Since that time, most medium to large internet companies have affiliate programs. And now, even the smallest companies are jumping onto the affiliate bandwagon to garner a sales force that works entirely on commission. This sales force not only goes out there and markets the company, but actually brings in the sales. Affiliate marketing has grown as more companies see it as an inexpensive way to bring in sales, and more affiliates see it as a way to raise their own incomes and work from home.
To market products, affiliates have had to stay on top of the game in order to utilize the most recent methods. Some of the ways affiliates market products are to create websites, to send newsletters, and to create AdSense ads.
Websites that revolve around a specific topic and provide interesting, topical information are more likely to bring in traffic, as so many affiliates have discovered. By building web sites full of informational content, and then placing links to the related items they are selling, affiliates have found a way to bring customers in and to keep them coming back for the information they are provided with.
Some affiliates collect email addresses of interested parties and craft newsletters about their topic. These newsletters will have linked interspersed with the information, giving the customer the information they want, and also providing a way to make sales. AdSense is a way to place ads for the products you sell on other people’s websites in order to make sales. The affiliate gets a percentage of sales that are made through the ads.
Affiliate marketing has spread far and wide using these methods, and many people buy items without even being aware that they have bought through an affiliate. While many people online have turned to affiliate marketing for a steady work from home income, the field is still large enough to offer opportunities to beginners. Although profitable, the learning curve to get started can be big so be prepared.
